Taking place 6 months on from the Postgraduate Research Experience Survey (PRES) 2015, and ahead of the introduction of the first Government-funded loans for Masters students, this forum will look at the future for postgraduate education in England.

Delegates will discuss whether there is sufficient support for undergraduates transitioning to postgraduate level – drawing on outcomes from HEFCE’s Postgraduate Support Scheme – as well as the extent to which current postgraduate provision is delivering for both students and employers, looking at student satisfaction throughout their course, and any lessons learned from Centres of Doctoral Training.

Sessions will also look at the future for postgraduate funding, following the Government’s announcement in last year’s spending review to lift the age cap for Master’s loans to anyone under 60, and to reduce the repayment rate from 9% to 6% of income over £21,000, as well as the development and implementation of income-contingent loans for postgraduate research students. Delegates will consider the impact of these policies, particularly on social mobility, and whether they go far enough to support those looking to continue their studies.
