The Higher Education External Relations Association (HEERA) was established in September 1991 and incorporated by memorandum and articles of association on the 27 November 2003. In 2008 an administrative office was established at the University of Birmingham.
HEERA’s aim is to advance and assist in the advancement of education for the public benefit in universities and other higher education institutions (the institutions). In particular, but without prejudice to the generality of the foregoing, by providing and maintaining an organisation to offer training, advice and support to those members of the institutions involved in marketing, public and media relations, alumni relations, fundraising and development and other external relations in such a way as is designed to promote the efficient and effective running of the institutions.
What does HEERA offer?
A key benefit of HEERA membership is the access members gain to a network of colleagues performing similar roles in HE External relations. Members have the opportunity to share experience and information about current issues and trends, gain early insight into emerging strategic topics and influence their direction. We facilitate this by organising:
• Sector specific training and events
• Networking events
• Maintain a directory of External Relations contacts
• E-mail discussion list
• Working/interest groups in partnership with relevant bodies
